Welcome to M Johnson Design, the on-line home of artist and calligrapher Mary Lou Johnson.
I'm a former teacher who became a graphic designer. I have worked in design and letterforms for over 20 years. As a member of the Los Angeles Society for Calligraphy, I began taking classes in hand lettering which then lead to attending as many International Calligraphy Conferences as humanly possible. In other words, I am completely in love with letterforms.

My talents and skills encompass calligraphy, fine art, graphic design and print reproduction. Illustrating children's text books for Dandy Lion Publications combined my teaching experience and artist skills. Whenever possible, I join the Wednesday Irregulars in Cambria (just up the road from San Luis Obispo) for group plein air painting sessions. My love of sharing calligraphy with friends led to offering instruction in calligraphy through Adult Education classes in my home town and at a local community college.

It gives me great pleasure to create original art that expresses my clients' unique personality and style whether it be a wedding or special occasion invitation, poster or book jacket design.
